In summer 2025, I drove a donated 4×4 from Dover / Dunkirk across Europe to Kyiv, delivering it to Ukrainian emergency services in collaboration with a UK charity. Using this overland journey as an opportunity for documentary work, I photographed throughout the route – capturing the contrasts, silences, and strange incongruity of everyday life continuing under war. From Kyiv I took an overnight coach to Odessa – arriving at dawn & without immediately realising it, found myself on the Potemkin Stairs
After a brief rest on the shores of the Black Sea, I headed home through Moldova. What struck me most was the persistence of ordinary moments: people in cafés, trains running, routines playing out under the constant threat of attack & destruction.
