Primary practice is analog / film based photography presented under the title of ‘Citizen Reality’.
I use different approaches – according to whether I’m in the actual place where the picture shows, or not. It’s a case of ‘Being There’, or seeing something vicariously, on the Internet, or TV and taking a photograph of it, via the screen.
Regardless of the contrasting visual syntaxes, there’s no hierarchy or boundary of subject matter. The picture outputs reflect a compulsive and intuitive response to a photographic addiction presented with a particular scene or imagery, that for some reason, feels specific enough to warrant recording it.
I like being aesthetically seduced and enjoy the misrepresentation or ambiguity that can cause. Life is complex. Why would photography be any different?
And I like questioning, or suggesting the idea of there being photographic authenticity. Which can drive some people crazy. In mitigation, I’m experimenting with truth. So, the outputs result from a mix of aimless serendipity and a calculated desire for memorability.
Note: The data compression processes involved in presenting the ‘Telescreen’ pictures online / viewed through a screen can create stroboscopic anomalies that do not appear in the paper prints of the same photographs.
